Situated in Manchester we are able to offer complete treatment with both placement and restoration of implants carried out at the practice.
Mr Damian O'Shea has trained in the placement and restoration of dental implants at Sheffield University by attending and treating patients on an eighteen month clinical course. He has also a Master of Medical Science degree in Dental Implantology from there. Implant Consultation
At an implant consultation a full examination is carried out and appropriate x rays, models and photographs taken. Subsequent to this a full treatment plan would be developed together with an estimate of the costs of providing the treatment. A further appointment is arranged to discuss the treatment plan.
The cost of a full implant consultation is £95.00 to include models, x-rays and written treatment plan and estimate and the follow up appointment to discuss the plan. Please contact the practice to arrange this.
Free initial dental implant visit
For patients wanting to find out about the practice or general information about dental implants we can arrange a fifteen minute initial visit with Mr Damian O'Shea. General aspects of implant treatment, costs and the practice can be discussed. If you wish to proceed to a full consultation we can arrange this and provide a full treatment plan and estimate.
Replacing missing teeth using dental implants
Implants provide a very flexible way of treating missing teeth and so can be used in many situations.
However their suitability for any given situation must be assessed on an individual basis.
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are small titanium fixtures which serve to replace the roots of missing teeth. The implants bond with the bone of the jaw and act as an anchor on which a replacement tooth can be fixed. Implants can be used for a wide range of treatment from one implant to replace one missing tooth through to implants to replace all the teeth in the mouth. They can also be used to stabilise a denture. The implants used at the practice are the Straumann and Nobel Biocare systems backed by many years of research and development.
What are the advantages of dental implants?
Dental implants have many advantages and these depend on your situation. When teeth are lost the bone that held them there will disappear. Implants can preserve this bone so maintaining structure. They can be an alternative to bridges where surrounding teeth would have to be prepared.
For patients with dentures implants provided better function, comfort and confidence.
Implants can be used at the time teeth are lost or many years later.
Implant treatment options
Single missing tooth
Single missing teeth occur in all areas of the mouth and can be restored by the placement of a dental implant and crown.
Multiple missing teeth
It is not necessary to have one implant for each missing tooth. For example if three teeth are missing two implants can be placed and three teeth attached as a bridge.
All missing teeth
Where all the teeth are missing implants can be used in two ways. The first is to retain a fixed bridge.
The second is to secure a removable overdenture. The best solution will depend upon the amount of remaining bone, patient preference and cost. Overdentures can be used in situations where there is less bone. It is also a lower cost solution.
All on 4
All on 4 is an alternative solution for patients who are missing all their teeth in one or both jaws.
The All on 4 concept was developed by Nobel Biocare. All the missing teeth are replaced by a fixed bridge on four implants. Two of the implants are tilted and in many cases the need for bone grafting is reduced. In many cases a temporary bridge can be fitted on the same day as the implants. A permanent bridge is made after a period of healing. The technique has been used for over a decade.
Mini implants
Mini implants are smaller than regular implants and can be used in situations where bone is limited to stabilise dentures. The cost of this type of implant is less than standard implants.
Cost and payment
The cost of implant treatment depends on the number of implants and the complexity of treatment. After a full examination a detailed estimate of costs is always provided.
We are also able to arrange financial packages so that the cost can be spread over a number of years. This includes a 0% option for up to 24 months.
Although the cost of implant treatment is high the benefits to patients are great and this makes it worthwhile. In the long term implants will often prove to be the more cost effective solution to missing teeth and a worthwhile investment.
